Star Quality Goats welcomes you.
How Star Quality Goats started: My family have been raising pygmy goats since 2003. We purchased our first pygmy for my son Don. This was his first 4-H animal. We called the breeders in our area and listened to what we should be looking for in purchasing our first pygmy goat. We decided to buy J-Lynn Rocky III, from Janet Schager in Elk Grove. He was a cute dark grey agouti wether. We went back the next year and bought J-Lynn Sparky he is a carmel wether. They are best buddies.
In 2005 our friend Karen Allen, gave us a deal on a doe. Rocky Oaks Ranch Starlight Jazz. We were pretty excited. This is where Star Quality Goats got it's name. Most the goats are born from Star. We were pretty nervous with our first kidding. Being new to the whole process. With the help of our 4-H group and local breeders we were prepared. Only to find out Star didn't need our help. When we went out to check on her in the morning, she had givin' birth to Reggie and Emma. All we had to do was clean up and enjoy the baby kids. Since than we have experienced 5 more kiddings.
This spring we will be having at least 3 kiddings. We have grown our herd to 20 goats. Now we would like to give back to the goat lovers of the community with information that may help you with your experiences.
This is what the web-site is all about. Please feel free to exchange information or ask questions. e-mail: cgodfrey@starqualitygoats.com

Libby the kid had her kids..
This morning I went to check on Libby, knowing she is due anytime with her birth. I spotted a kid on the ground. Yeah she had her kids. But wait.........the little gray kid wasn't moving. I went to it and it wasn't breathing and I placed my finger in it's mouth. It was very cold. Is seems she cleaned it off. Oh, no. as I got in the pen some more. There was Libby over her second kid. Still covered in slime. Was it alive??? It wasn't moving either. I placed my finger in the kids mouth and it was as cold as an ice cube. Sorry to announce that both kids were dead. Libby on the other hand was doing well. She will grieve for a while not understanding what happen. These kids might have been still birthed. I am so happy that Libby is still alive.

My does kidded
ChrissysPygmys writes "My oldest doe, Midnight, had twins. Both are black does with white ticking. They are so friendly! One is named Kira and the other is Lily. Sally had twins also, but they were abandoned the first night. They seemed to be healthy so I don't know what happened. And my last doe, Twixie, had twins. One is a white caramel buck and the other is an extremely light agouti doe. They have yet to be named. Inputs are gladly accepted :) "

Thankfulness
Anonymous writes "My son Derik is in the first grade. In his class they were asked to tell the teacher what they are thankful for this year. The student in the class were thankful for the usual things like mom and dad, their home, food to eat, and friends to play with. But not my son Derik. He told the teacher that he was thankful for Judges at the Goat Shows. This is posted in his classroom with all the other postings of thankfulness. Just to let you know that even a 6 year old is thankful for the judges."
